An established construction contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team in Plymouth, supporting the successful delivery of a varied portfolio of construction projects across the region.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded Quantity Surveyor to take responsibility for key commercial activities, from procurement and cost control through to financial reporting and subcontractor management. The business delivers projects across a range of sectors, including education, healthcare, commercial, retail and industrial, offering a varied workload and the opportunity to contribute to successful project delivery.
The Role
Working closely with project teams, clients and the wider supply chain, you will play a key role in protecting margins, managing costs and ensuring projects are delivered in line with their commercial objectives.

The Role

Key Responsibilities
- Manage the commercial aspects of construction projects, including budgeting, procurement and cost control.
- Prepare and monitor cost forecasts, financial reports and Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
- Manage subcontractor procurement, valuations, payments and final accounts.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, subcontractors and supply chain partners.
- Work collaboratively with site and project management teams to monitor progress, identify commercial risks and maximise project value.
- Administer contracts and support the resolution of contractual issues and disputes where required.
- Identify opportunities for value engineering, cost efficiencies and improved commercial performance.
- Support sustainability and social value initiatives in line with client requirements and relevant frameworks.
The successful candidate will have experience in a Quantity Surveying role within the construction industry, with a strong understanding of commercial management and the ability to manage costs and contractual obligations effectively.
You will be analytical, well organised and commercially astute, with the communication skills needed to build strong relationships across project teams and the supply chain.
Key skills and experience will include:
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- Experience managing costs, procurement, subcontractors and commercial reporting within construction.
- Knowledge of NEC and JCT forms of contract.
- Strong financial analysis, reporting and commercial negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- RICS membership, or working towards professional accreditation, would be advantageous.
- An understanding of sustainable procurement, social value and ISO-certified management systems would be beneficial.
