Job Description

An ICA Technician is responsible for the maintenance, installation, calibration, and troubleshooting of instrumentation, control systems, and automation equipment within industrial settings. This role involves working with a variety of technologies to ensure the efficient and reliable operation of systems in industries such as water and wastewater treatment, manufacturing, and energy.

Qualifications

There are no formal academic entry requirements. Training is provided Off and on-the-job. NVQs/ SVQs in Operating Process Plant are available at Level 2.

Tasks

  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of instrumentation devices such as sensors, meters, and analysers..
  • Troubleshoot and repair faults in control instrumentation systems..
  • Install, configure, and commission control systems and automation equipment..
  • Collaborate with engineers to ensure proper integration with existing systems..
  • Develop and modify Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programs to meet system requirements..
  • Debug and optimize PLC code for efficient system operation..
  • Configure Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems for monitoring and controlling industrial processes..
  • Ensure user-friendly interfaces and troubleshoot HMI-related issues..
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in automated processes and control systems..
  • Implement corrective actions to minimize downtime..
  • Assess and recommend upgrades to instrumentation and control systems..
  • Collaborate with procurement to source necessary equipment..
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, calibration results, and system modifications..
  • Create documentation for new installations or system changes..
  • Adhere to safety regulations and guidelines during maintenance and installation activities..
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures..
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, operators, and other technicians to achieve project goals..
  • Provide technical support to other departments as needed..
  • Stay informed about advancements in instrumentation and control technology..
  • Provide training to operators and maintenance staff on new systems and technologies..
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations, such as system failures or critical faults..
  • Implement emergency procedures to restore system functionality..
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and system optimization..
  • Participate in initiatives to enhance overall operational efficiency..
  • Work with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for remote monitoring and control..
  • Implement changes and upgrades to SCADA configurations..
